IS THIS SHOW RIGHT FOR ME?
At the Pollard, we strive to tell stories that will speak to all of our audience - but with such a diverse audience base, no one story will be right for everyone. We encourage you to research each title and decide for yourselves if this is a show you would appreciate.
by August Wilson
February 10th – March 4th, 2017

Winner of theatre's highest honors including 1987 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Fences is the 6 th (and arguably the best) play in August Wilson's extraordinary ten part “Pittsburgh Cycle”. Set in the 1950's, Fences focuses on Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues who now works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. Excluded as a black man from the major leagues during his prime, Troy's bitterness takes its toll on his relationships with his wife and his son, who now wants his own chance to play ball. "One of the great characters in American drama. One of the richest experiences I have ever had in the theatre." - New York Post
